Time For Change, Laurence Spurling: a psychoanalytic psychotherapy and counselling service in Fitzrovia, Central London W.1

Do you feel your life has become stuck, unfulfilling or meaningless?
Has your life become constricted because of depression, anxiety or obsessional or ruminative thinking?
Do you want to explore your thoughts and feelings within the safety of a psychotherapeutic relationship?

Who I am

I am a very experienced and highly qualified psychoanalytic psychotherapist who has been practising for over 40 years. I am a Senior Member of the British Psychotherapy Foundation and am accredited with the British Psychoanalytic Council. A good part of my expertise in working with people in distress has come from the 17 years I have spent working as a Psychotherapist and Consultant Psychotherapist in a Specialist Psychotherapy Service in the NHS. I have taught on a psychotherapy training in a university for over 30 years and have published a number of books and articles on psychoanalytic practice - my book ‘An Introduction to Psychodynamic Counselling’ (2015, Palgrave) gives a good description of my approach.

What I offer

Many people who come to me for psychotherapy have a clear problem or issue they want help with - their lives are made miserable by depression, anxiety or some other condition that inhibits their life, or they may feel they have been knocked sideways by a particular event such as a bereavement. Others seek help unable to locate anything particular that they think has gone wrong, yet they may feel their life is empty or has become pointless. Some people who consult me have had therapy before, which may have helped them to some extent, but now feel they want to go deeper or get to the root of whatever it is that is stopping them make the most of their life. Whatever the reason for seeking help, the basis of my practice is the offer of regular therapy sessions, weekly or more than once a week as appropriate, for as long as is needed. The length and focus of the therapy with me will be worked out with you in the initial consultation. Here we can work out how to best address your specific problems.
